  Love             I have been thinking about the phrase “God is love.”    It’s a phrase that almost anyone Christian or non-Christian is familiar.   Anyone and everyone can quote it.  We all understand that God is love.  I think that most of us would believe it to be true as well.  Right now, most of you are probably thinking, “Of course God is love”, that’s what he is and does and you would not be wrong.           Then my thoughts went in another direction.  Is it enough that God is love?  Initially, it must be enough.  God is always enough.  Yet, love is nothing if it is not reciprocal.  For the love of God to be effective, we must love him as well.  We need to return his love.            So, I guess my question to you is, do you love God?  Are you going to retur...

Today our cat ran outside.    Midnight loves to be outside.   So, we let the cat stay out for a while.     It got dark, and my daughter became concerned.   She wanted her kitty safe in the house.    The problem is that midnight was not ready to come back inside the confines of our home. He wanted to chase birds and other animals.   No amount of coaxing could persuade the wayward cat to step one foot inside that door.    I went outside to catch him, but that too failed.   Cats are, generally, faster than people and cannot be snared easily.   Finally, I gave up came in and sat down in my chair saying that if he loved us,  he would come back in when he was ready.   Yes, it hurt, and it was scary.   I wanted him to choose to come in, but I couldn’t force him to make that decision.  I...

I dropped Ryan and Abigail off at a camp for a week.  When we got out of the car at the camp, we had only walked a few feet when Abby stopped mid-stride.  I looked and there was a bird standing on the ground less than three feet away and it was scolding and yelling at her.  We did the normal thing in that situation; we grabbed our camera and started taking pictures.  Isn’t that what you do? Ok maybe not, but we knew this was a once in a lifetime shot.  My daughter kept watching it and finally said, “I think it has a broken wing." Later, I was talking with some workers and they said this bird is called a killdeer.  It acts this way to protect its eggs.  It will attack or draw you away from its nest by pretending to be hurt.  As I watched it, I thought WOW!  I wonder if this is how God guards us!  As much as that killdeer loved and protected those eggs, God loves and protects us more.  He loves us and puts himself between us an...
