For the next few days I am going to write about some things that we say, but that God will not or does not say. Whoops!    It's that word you use when you realize you’ve made a mistake.    It’s that moment when you realize you put in a cup and not a ½ cup of sugar.     It’s when you forgot to the car payment was due, yesterday.    Maybe you forgot a birthday.    Whoops.    There are other times when that is the last thing we want to hear.     On the operating table hearing whoops is not cool.     In an airplane, I never want the pilot to say, “Yikes!”    When I’m driving on an interstate and the next exit is 80 miles away,  I don’t want to hear, “Oh no.”   But the ugly truth is that we are human.  and even the best of us are prone to mistakes.    We can’t help it.    I...

Who among us has not thought, at one time or another, “If only I could find “the perfect” job”.  “If I could meet just the perfect man or woman …..”  “If only my family were perfect …..”  In Christian circles, we say, “If I could find the perfect church….”   Everyone seems to be looking for perfection.  After all, God created us for a perfect world.  The danger is in forgetting that perfection cannot exist in a fallen, broken and sin polluted world.  Although we dream of perfection, we have to hold on to the fact that others are not perfect.  Therefore, as much as I may want a perfect job, as long as it is in this world, there will be some deficiency. The same goes for a spouse, or church, or even family.  As long as people are involved, we cannot expect perfection because people are imperfect and sinful.  What this means, for me, is that I will cut others some slack and stop demanding from others, perfectio...

Most of us have heard, or even said these words ourselves. I confess I have used them myself occasionally. In fact, I was using this phrase just the other day as I was filling out some paperwork.  In my case, and probably yours as well, I don’t really hate my life.  I only hate a situation in my life that is causing me stress at that moment.  Sometimes, when we are going through a struggle, we can lose our perspective.  We often feel as though we are the only one who has problems in their life.   In reality, we know that other people have problems; yet, somehow, we forget this as the storms of life are raging and threatening to swallow us up.  We often forget that Jesus, himself, promised that we would have trials.  Still, none of us likes ...
