As I read this I have often wondered why God would require this seemingly harsh treatment of people.
Did he hate them?
No, he doesn't hate anyone.
I know he didn't want his people to learn the ways of the "world",
but why everyone?
Some of them may have done nothing wrong.
Did they deserve to die?
No, probably not,
but they were sucked into the drama of those around them.
They aren't the only ones to have that happen to them.
Simon the Cyrene had that happen when Jesus was being crucified.
He was forced to carry the cross.
He's not the only one.
Sometimes I have been dragged into other people's trouble.
I didn't want their problem
and I didn't ask for them,
but I got sucked in, none-the-less.
In fact, some of you are there right now
dealing with the drama of others.
You didn't ask for it
or want it,
but here you are.
Sometimes, like Simon, the drama can't be avoided.
Other times, like the people living in the land, the only way to avoid the drama is to leave.
Then, they would have avoided trouble.
Rain, troubles, struggles may happen.
We can and should avoid drama when possible
and trust God when we can't avoid it.'
