I had the day off. I was up early enjoying the morning sun and a cup of coffee before I started the day. Suddenly, I had an inspiration. I wanted to fix a dresser that I had bought at a yard sale a few years ago. My daughter used it and when she got married, it became mine. It was old and worn out when I acquired it, but I knew just how to fix it. As I was taking old padding off and peeling off layers of contact paper, I stumbled upon the stunning realization that I love makeovers. There is something immensely satisfying about taking something that most people would throw out and making it into something amazing. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I have a God, who also specializes in not just a makeover but in transformation. God doesn’t see the scuff marks or the holes or the dents or the ripped padding. He sees something worthwhile. He sees what we can be with HIS help. But he isn’t interested in making us a better copy of what we already are. He wants to make us something entirely different. He wants to transform us into his image. He knows we are old, tired and worn out and marred by the world. He wants to breathe new life into us and renew our spirit. His desire is to make us into incredible men and women who look like him and are not worn out and stained by the world. He wants to transform us, not just give us a makeover.
